Conservation:
One of WebbNat's key missions is conservation and sustainability. We strive to make a change in bettering not only the campus that we live on, but also the world that we live in. It is about making a small impact, and letting it expand until it eventually influences everyone around us. To do so, we start in with our school community, providing insight into the local natural world and doing tangible conservation projects.
However, we are not stopping there. Our current major project is a 3-part documentary series that aims to uncover how life worldwide adapts to the rapidly changing climate and environment, and highlight the work that many have been doing to best preserve this environment before time runs out. Please visit our documentaries page for more details.
Here are some ways in which WebbNat acts towards our mission:
Taking Action:
Planting native California plants is a key step in creating a more ecologically diverse, and sustainable community. And alongside WebbNat's sister club, the Webb Native Plant Society, we are able to create spaces that not only support the environment and native species but also create opportunities for the Webb community to engage in sustainability work.
We are also planting endangered Engelmann Oaks by sourcing acorns from various mother trees located behind our campus. This project is designed to stand the test of time, hence we already have over 100 trees planted in the ground. As of our last survey conducted March 2025, about 40% of the trees have survived. However, this number is likely to change with 2nd year germinations. We plan to plant more this year.
One of the key way we spread out influence is through social media, by providing simple posts with adequate information towards a species or a subject, creates areas that generate wonder and curiosity, and that is what we want to promote, to seek out into the wild, and to understand more of our untamed, natural world.
